  • How will driverless cars make life or death choices? Google exec admits he doesn't know - CNET

  • Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Enlarge ImageWhere on the dashboard is its moral compass? KAREN BLEIER/AFP/GettyImages I think of morality as a feather that shifts in the wind and occasionally brushes your face delightfully as it falls to earth.I'm still perturbed, however, whether technology has a fine grasp of it. Or whether it can.I'm moved by the news that Uber has launched its driverless vehicles in Pittsburgh. It crossed my mind whether these cars have already been programmed whom to kill if they face a moral dilemma. For example, the car is about to hit another car with three people inside. It can swerve out of the way, but then it'll hit three children standing on the sidewalk. How does it make the choice? To celebrate the centennial of the service, Google has created an animated doodle that takes viewers on a virtual coast-to-coast tour of some of the sites and sounds that can be found on the 84 million acres of land designated as protected since the agency's creation. Starting with a collection of iron-on souvenir park patches, Google shows us the various wildlife that can found in some of the system's 59 national parks and monuments, including tortoises, moose and egrets. We are also treated to the awe-inspiring beauty of the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Devils Tower.S, ...ادامه مطلب

The apps range from photo-editing program Pixlr Touch Up to games like a now-discontinued version of Angry Birds. • Google mocks iPhone storage capabilities - CNET

  • Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Enlarge ImageThat would have been the selfie of a lifetime. Google/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET Google cares. It cares about the fact that you have an iPhone and it might be one of the 16GB variety that seems a little inappropriate for mode life. After all, you take selfies approximately once every four minutes. How can you keep them all on a phone with such paltry storage? In order to show that it feels for you, Google released an ad last week that mocks your iPhone's storage and expresses exactly how you sometimes feel when it blocks you from uploading any more selfies. Here we see people about to take the shot of a lifetime. [embedded content] Suddenly, it gets shot down by the phone's lack of capacity.Of course, the ad doesn't actually mention the iPhone. But the alert that comes up on screen mightily resembles an iPhone message.Oh, if only you had Google's "free up space" feature, its Photos app would automatically whip the photos that are already backed up in the cloud out of your phone. This leaves you to enjoy taking more and more selfies and then posting them to Facebook for your friends to ignore. Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.I fear, though, that one or two Cupertinians might muse: "Hey, Google.
