Description A newly belligerent Chinese govement leaves US President Jack Ryan with only a few desperate options in this continuation of the number one New York Times best-selling Tom Clancy series.
Jack Ryan is dealing with an aggressive challenge from the Chinese govement. Pawns are being moved around a global chessboard: an attack on an oil platform in Africa, a terrorist strike on an American destroyer, and a storm-tossed American spy ship that may fall into Chinese hands. It seems that President Zhao is determined to limit Ryan's choices in the upcoming G20 negotiations.
But there are hints that there's even more going on behind the sc, ...ادامه مطلب
As part of our coverage of Star Trek's 50th anniversary, I talked with a dozen cast members from across the franchise about everything from Star Trek's inclusive message to how it feels to be a sex symbol to nerds. Jeri Ryan didn't want the role at first. The then up-and-comer was trying to kickstart her career after eaing a theater degree and winning the Miss Illinois beauty pageant (she later competed in Miss America, coming in fourth place). "I wasn't remotely interested in science fiction," Ryan said of her pre-Star Trek days. Sure, she'd watched some episodes of the original series. But she'd also heard the shows had a history of stymieing some actor's careers. Then Ryan read about her character, Seven of Nine, a human kidnapped as a young girl by a cybeetic race known as the Borg. She then spends decades participating in the atrocious "assimilation" of other species before she's snatched back by the Voyager crew. Bryan Cranston has signed on with the Lionsgate "Power Rangers" reboot, the "Breaking Bad" actor said Tuesday on Twitter.Cranston joins the cast as Zordon, the disembodied holographic head in a tube that trains, leads and advises the group of teen superheroes. The rebooted Rangers themselves have a starkly different look, but there's no word yet on whether Cranston's Zordon will be a big departure from the classic TV show.We do know he'll be up against Elizabeth Banks who was previously cast as Rita Repulsa, the evil space witch and archnemesis of the Rangers. Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Enlarge ImageHe can only add to the movie's greatness. Players Tribune/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET The upcoming "Ghostbusters" movie has been getting mixed advance mutter. (I'm being my usual polite). The first trailer was assailed by Kevin Smith, a director who's had his own share of hits and misses. And even one of the movie's stars, Melissa McCarthy, said it was confusing. In an atmosphere of such angst, who are you going to call? Why, that famed performer Kobe Bryant. The just-retired NBA star revealed on Thursday that he enjoys a cameo in an ad premiering on Thursday during the NBA finals. There he is, all suited up in Ghostbusters gear and ready to what? Flop, perhaps? (I mean "flop" in the basketball sense, of course.)Should you be surprised to see Bryant -- not the most popular NBA star ever -- in such a work of art, please don't be.
He's already declared he has artistic pretensions. He's created a company to produce movies. And who could forget the way he announced his retirement with a poem? Yes, an ode to basketball. Surely his presence in this new "Ghostbusters" ad can only enhance the movie's potential. You will be able to see for yourself when it's released July 14 in Australia and July 15 in the US and UK. The film, a reboot of the '80s franchise, features an all-female crew of Ghostbusters and is directed by Paul Feig. I understand, however, that Bryant himself isn't in the movie. He's just a fan of the original.I fancy this will be the first step toward Bryant taking on leading roles in other remakes. Or at least in ads for other remakes. And no, I'm not thinking of something low level like "Space Jam." I'm thinking "A Star Is Bo." Or perhaps "Flash Gordon."Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

Enlarge ImageWhere did Deadpool get the money to donate to a Utah theater's defense fund? You're probably better off not knowing that. Fox When a movie theater is threatened with legal action for serving alcohol to its customers during an R-rated comedy, who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! Wait, no, I mean Ryan Reynolds! Damn these pop culture references. Deadpool makes it look so easy. The star of the action comedy blockbuster "Deadpool" has weighed in on the legal woes of Brewvies Cinema Pub, a movie theater in Salt Lake City, Utah. The theater is facing fines and the suspension of its liquor license for violating a state law that prohibits alcohol from being served to customers watching sexually oriented entertainment. First, Reynolds weighed in on the controversy on Sunday with the following tweet. Thank god, they've found a way to legislate fun. https://t.co/vUSptxaHb9— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) April 24, 2016Then Reynolds, or someone who has enough money to pretend to be him, donated $5,000 to the theater's legal defense fundraiser on GoFundMe. A representative for the actor confirmed to the Associated Press that it was indeed Reynolds who made the donation. I guess this is one of those "four or five moments" that Colossus talked about right before Deadpool decided to tu Ajax's Francis' face into a spent bullet holder. And please, don't give me your whiny comments about spoilers. Don't act like you didn't know that was going to happen. Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives. That look of recognition says that the wrinkles have won. And I don't mean the wrinkles on defense. Apple/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET Kobe Bryant and Apple have a history.Once, the Lakers star was seen on Apple's Cupertino campus. He was supposedly meeting with Apple design chief Jony Ive. Perhaps he was advising him on bald hairdos. These days, though, all Bryant has is history. He's retiring this year. His growl has tued into a yeaing gu for affection. So here here is in a new ad for Apple TV. He's seated with actor Michael B. Jordan. The shtick is that Jordan will play Bryant in a movie. The young Bryant, that is.
There are those who believe that Bryant always strove to be another Jordan and failed, so why would a Jordan ever want to be a Bryant -- even a young one?But actors are fickle beings. always wanting to play someone younger than they are. So Bryant opens the NBA app on Apple TV to show Jordan the finer points of the younger Bryant. But Jordan explains that he's playing the Bryant who also endured a steep decline. The so-called Black Mamba claims there was no decline. Jordan finds an artistic way to break it to Bryant that he's done. Bryant is in denial, as he often was about his own greatness. Without a supporting cast, he was always less than met the eye, but never less than met his ego. It's therefore extremely hard for the Lakers star to confront the artistic truth -- even though Bryant fancies himself to be a truly interesting writer. This Apple TV ad follows on from one launched a couple of weeks ago, in which "Game of Thrones" actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau tries to perfect the art of kissing in movies. It's highly amusing in a pleasantly meta way.Bryant is now taking the path traveled by many vast egos who, once that act is done, realize that a wonderful, ...ادامه مطلب
