Then I took a screenshot, uploaded that to CNET's content management system and set it as this page's promo image, so everyone can see the wicked cool Vaporeon I caught. Screenshot by Luke Westaway/CNET Pokemon Go might still have an iron-tight grip on human social behaviour, but the mobile gaming phenomenon has done very little to line the coffers of Nintendo -- the House of Mario confirmed big quarterly losses, in the same week it reminded investors that it didn't actually, y'know, make the monster-catching game. Elsewhere the Solar Impulse sun-powered plane has completed its historic jaunt around the planet, and Amazon's Dash grocery scanner is coming to the UK -- should Tesco be worried? Elsewhere customer details of O2 customers has been found for sale on the dark web -- a sobering reminder of why reusing passwords across is a bad idea -- and Ofcom says BT has to make its Openreach subsidiary an independent organisation. Amazon has announced that it will be partnering with the UK Govement and the UK Civil Aviation Authority to test the drones for three key areas: operations outside line-of-sight in rural areas; sensor testing for hazard avoidance; and one-person operation of multiple drones. "Using small drones for the delivery of parcels will improve customer experience, create new jobs in a rapidly growing industry, and pioneer new sustainable delivery methods to meet future demand," said Amazon's Paul Misener in a statement. "The UK is charting a path forward for drone technology that will benefit consumers, industry and society."Amazon detailed the plans for Prime Air earlier this year, placing a time limit for 30 minutes on drone deliveries, and an upper weight limit of 55 pounds.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

The new app underscores the importance that personal technology plays in the campaign. Both Clinton and Trump have been using social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook extensively to reach prospective voters. The Trump campaign has no mobile app of its own, though Trump detractors have unveiled apps that spoof the Donald, including Trump Dump and Punch the Trump. • Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders take over Comic-Con - CNET

  • Marvel's "Luke Cage" panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con was pretty eventful -- more like a Marvel-Netflix panel, it included new show announcements, surprise guests and teaser trailers galore. The panel, moderated by Marvel TV head honcho Jeph Loeb, started with a compilation of various clips of the Marvel shows on Netflix and some audience participation which meant shouting the names of the shows -- I was in the "Jessica Jones" cheering section, thank you very much. Jon Bethal, who plays the Punisher on "Daredevil" and in the impending "Punisher" show, popped out for a quick appearance and talked about the responsibility of playing the character, knowing what he means to fans. [embedded content] A little later, Loeb introduced the show's creator, Cheo Hodari Coker, and then welcomed the show's primary cast: Frank Whaley, Theo Ross, Simone Missick, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard and then Luke Cage himself, Mike Colter. Also on the show but not in attendance is Rosario Dawson. The audience was treated to a number of clips from the show. Above, is the official teaser trailer released for the fall show. In another one we saw, Harlem's Hero takes out a bunch of tough guys and makes it look effortless; in another, there's a moody nighttime scene between Cage and Misty Knight (Missick); and along with a few others we were treated to a sizzle reel at the convention center. [embedded content] A running gag throughout the panel involved Marvel Comics Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, who appeared to have something important to say, only to be sent away by Loeb. As it tued out, Quesada did have news to share: There will be a third season of "Daredevil." That's right, everyone's favorite vigilante is retuing for a another run at keeping his hood safe. Right after that, we saw the first teaser for the upcoming "Iron Fist,, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Mozilla's Firefox to turn off Adobe Flash by default in 2017 - CNET

  • Firefox maker Mozilla is clamping down harder on Flash. Adobe Systems Firefox parent Mozilla is taking its battle against Adobe Flash a few steps further. In 2017, Firefox will require "click-to-activate approval" from you before you can trigger Flash-enabled videos and other Flash content on a website, Mozilla engineering manager Benjamin Smedberg said Wednesday in a blog post. This means the Flash content will remain dormant unless you actively click on a link or icon that says: "Activate Adobe Flash." You can currently do the same thing yourself in Firefox by manually setting Flash to "Ask to activate." But next year's move will be dramatic due to the new default status for all Firefox users. Adobe Flash has long been a necessary feature that enables web developers to offer games, video and streaming media via web browsers. But the Flash plug-in, which gets installed in the browser, has been blasted for its constant security holes and performance problems. The industry has been gravitating toward HTML5 as a replacement for Flash, though the move has been a slow one. Firefox has advised web developers who use Flash as well as Microsoft Silverlight for video to make the switch to HTML5 as quickly as possible. Smedberg said that Firefox supports encrypted video playback using Adobe Primetime and Google Widevine as alteatives to plug-in based video formats such as Flash. Mozilla isn't waiting until next year to start reining in Flash. Starting next month, the company will block certain Flash content not considered essential to the "user experience." At the same time, it will continue to support legacy Flash content, meaning content that can't be viewed any other way. Mozilla expects this move to offer "enhanced security, improved battery life, faster page load and better browser responsiveness," Smedberg said. Further, Mozilla will continue to block specific Flash content that's inv, ...ادامه مطلب

  • RoadshowNewsCar IndustryNew UK driving test will assess if you can follow a sat navThe British driving test will now include sat nav directions in a move to modeise the way people lea to drive. The UK's Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) updated the test to reflect the fact that more than half of UK drivers use a satellite navigation device to guide them as they drive."Candidates will be given more responsibility for making decisions during the test," explained DVSA Chief Driving Examiner, Lesley Young. "We want them to show they can cope with distractions and assess risk without the intervention of their instructor or examiner."The independent driving portion of the test will increase in length from 10 to 20 minutes, and manoeuvres such as reversing around a coer and tuing in the road are replaced with driving into and reversing out of a parking bay.The changes will come into effect next year.Of course, we wonder if it goes far enough in reflecting mode trends.
