ادامه مطلب [embedded content] Even if you might be suffering from Pokemon Go overload, this video of a musician playing the Pokemon theme song on flaming bagpipes while dressed as the Pokemon creature Charmander is very impressive. Considering the Charmander has a tail that can produce fire, it makes sense that the bagpipes used to play the Pokemon theme also ignite with flames. The talented musician who made this tribute possible is Brian Kidd -- best known as The Unipiper -- from Portland, Oregon. This isn't the first time The Unipiper has paid homage to something geeky. Earlier in the year, he dressed up as Superman and taunted Batman by playing his bagpipes and riding around on his unicycle. The Unipiper also wore a Darth Vader costume and played the S...
ادامه مطلب In other words, don't be a jerk. Other signs said men had to wear pants, and women had to be in skirts. Most men were in shorts (it was over 90f/30c) and that seemed fine. ادامه مطلب The karst rises from the flatland as if escaping the underworld, violently forced up by something down there. The truth is the opposite. The stark, imposing rocks are what's left after millions of years of weathering take their toll on the surrounding land. Towers of stone form the base, literally and figuratively, for the magic of this place. Somehow, impossibly perched atop these majestic peaks, are buildings. Not just a stone hut, but extensive complexes of beige rock and red roofs. They rise up where the stone ends, is if carved. As you marvel at one, you notice another, and then another. A series of these incredible buildings, made without roads, cranes, or even... stairs. This is Meteora, in central Greece, and it is unlike any place in the world. Here's what the...
ادامه مطلب Enlarge Image Poop Cafe Dessert Bar In some unsavory news, a poop-themed cafe will open in Toronto's Koreatown this August. The Poop Cafe Dessert Bar will be the first of its kind -- in Toronto at least. Rather unfortunately, it isn't the first eatery to venture into latrine-like waters. Toilet cafes have been popping up around the world since the early 2000's. The idea for the Poop Cafe Dessert Bar comes from Lien Nguyen, who must not have heard the saying "don't s--- where you eat." The recent George Brown College graduate, who studied culinary management, decided to open her cafe after visiting the Mode Toilet Restaurant in Taiwan.Nguyen is trying to "make poop cute," she tells the Toronto Star, by serv...
ادامه مطلب Enlarge ImageThis dragon attended the party. Amanda Kooser/CNET It was a proud moment for me. My brother texted to say he was getting married and he asked me to be his best (wo)man. And then he told me it was going to be a "Lord of the Rings"-theme wedding. Oh yes. I'm fortunate to be a member of a geeky family that revels in everything from Star Trek to "Game of Thrones." My brother's name "Ara" is a shortened version of "Arago " from "Lord of the Rings." I immediately googled "best man duties" and discovered I was responsible for planning the bachelor party. I knew what I wanted the theme to be: Dungeons & Dragons. We played D&D as kids. I remember poring over my brother's hardback game manuals a...
ادامه مطلب When it's time to make a theme song for the new "Ghostbusters" movie, who you gonna call?Apparently, not Ray Parker Jr.The singer, who penned the theme for the original 1984 "Ghostbusters" movie, told Inside Edition that he would've liked to work with pop-punk band Fall Out Boy on their new version of the classic tune. "I'm not going to say it's good or bad," Parker said in the video, which is posted on YouTube. "I'm just gonna say that I'm an old guy now, and I like it the old way."Fall Out Boy's take, called "Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid)," features more rock-heavy music and a guest appearance from rapper/producer Missy Elliot. RCA Records, which produced the new "Ghostbusters" soundtrack, didn't immediately retu a request for comment. This entry passed through the Full-Text RSS service...

Verizon/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET LeBron James knows that physics is boring. I know this because he's the star of a new Verizon ad in which he tells a young, impressionable student that he shouldn't worry about sitting in physics class and watching, oh, LeBron James videos. It's the right thing to do.The marginally overrated NBA star (disclosure: Golden State Warriors fan) is one of several personalities being featured in Verizon's enthusiastic crowing about its new data plans. The plans cost more, of course, but you get far more data, whi...

ادامه مطلب Enlarge Image MGM When you hear a new genus of Caribbean flowering plant has been named Jamesbondia, your mind only goes to one place. The spy who loved me, the man with the license to kill. Sean Connery. Roger Moore. Daniel Craig. But the plant's new name isn't to honor old 007 after all. It harks back to the man whose simple, uncomplicated moniker first inspired British author Ian Fleming to name his character. Jamesbondia is named for American o ithologist James Bond, an expert on birds of the Caribbean. Fleming was living in Jamaica and saw Bond's name on a copy of the 1936 guide "Birds of the West Indies."Fleming called the name "brief" and "unromantic" and he chose it for its very ordinariness, perfect...
ادامه مطلب [embedded content]"Game of Thrones" fans have made a lot of demands to the creators of their favorite show, but one item that's been very low on the totem pole involves updating the show's theme song. There's nothing wrong with the iconic theme written by composer Ramin Djawadi for the show's sweeping opening-credits sequence. However, throwing in some descriptive lyrics and a flock of interpretive dancers might help new viewers who don't realize they are about to get two scoops of violence and nudity, and save the network all that time dedicated to sifting through stacks of angry letters and emails. The folks at Entertainment Weekly visited the show's set and asked cast members including Maisie Williams, Natalie Dormer, Sophie Tu er and Emilia Clarke to come up with some new theme song ...
ادامه مطلب Wa ing: Watching Sean Connery as James Bond may make you shpeak with a Connery-like acchent for daysh. MGM If you're a fan of James Bond and you've got Amazon Prime, May is the greatest month. "Goldfinger," "Diamonds are Forever" and "Live and Let Die" are just some of the Bond movies that go online at Amazon in May. One of my favorite movies when I was a kid hits Amazon in May as well: "Vice Versa." Starring Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage, who trade places as father and son, it screams "80s movie." I'll watch it again as an adult to see if it holds up.Other standouts include "When Harry Met Sally" and Steven Soderbergh's debut feature "Sex, Lies and Videotape." New TV series come later in the month, on May...

The husband and wife from Portland, Oregon, have created a cannabis-themed Passover haggadah in hopes of sparking discussion about US drug policy (yes, expect even more pot puns) as measures related to medical and adult-use marijuana are set to appear on ballots across the country. Voting on the drug will soon take place in states including Califo ia, Florida, Ohio and Rho...

ادامه مطلب Mariachi Game of ThronesThese mariachi can play more than just "Las Mañanitas."Posted by We are mitú on Thursday, March 24, 2016 In an era of inclusiveness, HBO's take on "Game of Thrones" can sometimes seem awfully, well...white. Not just white, but like so many fantasy worlds, it seems pulled straight out of the mind of an unabashed anglophile. This is a little odd when you consider that "A Song of Ice and Fire" author George R.R. Martin is a longtime resident of New Mexico, one of the more diverse American states with a majority Hispanic/Latino population. Fortunately, in the spirit of a more multicultural Westeros, none other than Tyrion Lanister himself, Peter Dinklage, pointed us to the below mesmerizing mariachi rendition of the show's theme on his Facebook page Tuesday.
