  • Star Trek's Jeri Ryan reaaaaally wants a transporter - CNET

  • As part of our coverage of Star Trek's 50th anniversary, I talked with a dozen cast members from across the franchise about everything from Star Trek's inclusive message to how it feels to be a sex symbol to nerds. Jeri Ryan didn't want the role at first. The then up-and-comer was trying to kickstart her career after eaing a theater degree and winning the Miss Illinois beauty pageant (she later competed in Miss America, coming in fourth place). "I wasn't remotely interested in science fiction," Ryan said of her pre-Star Trek days. Sure, she'd watched some episodes of the original series. But she'd also heard the shows had a history of stymieing some actor's careers. Then Ryan read about her character, Seven of Nine, a human kidnapped as a young girl by a cybeetic race known as the Borg. She then spends decades participating in the atrocious "assimilation" of other species before she's snatched back by the Voyager crew. Recent polling suggests that 37 percent of the young and restless have a strongly unfavorable opinion of the Democratic candidate. Then again, 50 percent feel the same strongly negative way about her Republican opponent. How can the Trump campaign address this troubling trend in the race to the bottom? Second, the ad featured not Trump's magisterial features, but those of his three most well-known adult children.Posted to Donald Trump Jr's account, the ad shows the three kids staring stely into the camera, as if they represent the hope and, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Justin Bieber deletes Instagram account - CNET

  • Enlarge ImageJustin Bieber's nearly 80 million Instagram followers get a rude awakening. Valery Hache/AFP/Getty Images Pop star Justin Bieber has deleted his Instagram account, following negative comments from fans and a high-profile series of terse exchanges with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. Bieber, who had nearly 80 million followers on the popular photo-sharing service, was recently embroiled in an online row over his Instagram account. Bieber had posted photos with 17-year-old Sofia Richie. But when fans reacted badly (reportedly posting snake emojis to express their dislike of Richie, according to Global News), the 22-year-old star posted the message: "I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate this is getting out of hand." • Somebody needs to check on Carfection: Our week on Instagram - Roadshow

  • RoadshowNewsCar CultureSomebody needs to check on Carfection: Our week on InstagramSome weeks are busier than others. For some of us, this wasn't a very busy week -- well, "not busy" in the sense of interesting things that can be shown off on Instagram. Some intro paragraphs for Instagram posts are better than others, as well, if you haven't already figured that out. So, um, follow us on Instagram! Or don't. I'm not your mother. But I'd prefer it if you do.Roadshow's week was all over the place. Nick and Tim spent some time getting up close and personal with Ferrari's 488 GTB at Lime Rock, where the weather danced between "sort of pleasant" and "of course it would pour balls on the one day we rented out Lime Rock." Emme and Nick got down and dirty with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Jon is driving the Lexus IS 200t, and I can tell it's him because his Instagram pictures are always off-center. Emme's driving a Jaguar F-Pace riddled with gremlins. • Supercars, super cars and a Gigafactory: Our week on Instagram - Roadshow

  • RoadshowNewsCar CultureSupercars, super cars and a Gigafactory: Our week on InstagramStepping back into our weekly Instagram post after a week away is a joyous feeling, like retuing home from a long trip and finding your favorite slippers waiting right inside the doorway. Wait, where was I? Oh, right. You should follow us on Instagram. We do neat things.Carfection's week was all about supercars. With Alex about to embark on a weeklong vacation (another reason for me to hate him), Drew took the helm. First, he slid behind the wheel of Acura's new NSX. To counteract all the electrified trickery taking place under the hood, Drew then went off to drive Aston Martin's new DB11. Not a bad week, that.Over at Roadshow, we had quite the busy week. I spent some time with two different Teslas, while Tim shuffled off to check out Tesla's in-progress Gigafactory. Jon and Emme were getting down and dirty with Ford trucks -- Jon, the Roush F-150, and Emme, the 2017 Ford Super Duty. Chris bit the bullet for the team and spent the week with the Cadillac XT5. It's not a bad car by any stretch, but it's by far the least interesting of the week. • Porsches, Porsches, Porsches and some other stuff: Our week on Instagram - Roadshow

  • RoadshowNewsCar CulturePorsches, Porsches, Porsches and some other stuff: Our week on InstagramSome weeks, there's a good, overarching theme to bring together our plea to have you follow us on Instagram. If you haven't figured it out by this point, we've got a pretty solid theme going this week. If you actually haven't figured it out by this point, how are you clicking through to articles without reading the title? I'm actually impressed, if that's the case.Carfection's week was dominated by the 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman, a car that's ditched its flat-six engine in favor of something that sounds like a broken Subaru. Alex also checked out his local Formula E race, and Drew snagged some awesome pictures from the Formula 1 race at Silverstone. Not a bad week, not a bad week at all.As for Roadshow, I spent the whole week with a Porsche 911 and managed to wrangle up enough restraint to not post 1,400 pictures. Tim went to Italy to drive the Aston Martin DB11, something that made the rest of us very jealous. Antuan checked out the new Accord Hybrid in a gorgeous shade of bronze, and Emme's off-roading Lexus vehicles in Oregon as part of the Heels and Wheels event. I won't mock Chris Paukert this week, because he's sick and that wouldn't be very nice. • NFL star takes heat from team after 'disturbing and unacceptable' Instagram post - CNET

  • Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Browns running back Isaiah Crowell. Jason Miller/Getty Images After black men Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were killed by police officers, social media was filled with extremes of anger. Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell expressed his ire by going to Instagram and posting an illustration of a masked man executing a police officer, ISIS-style. (You can view the image, which is disturbing, here.) His caption read: "Mood: They give polices [sic] all types of weapons and they continually choose to kill us... #Weak." The post was quickly removed. On Monday, Crowell posted an Instagram apology. It read, in part, "My values and beliefs do not match that image." He explained that watching black men die at the hands of the police made him emotional. He also referenced his sorrow about the five police officers who were murdered in Dallas during a protest sparked by the deaths of Sterling and Castile. Some might see a certain similarity between his post and the Twitter post of former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh, in which Walsh seemed to threaten President Barack Obama and Black Lives Matter and claimed that "Real America" was coming after both. The only difference may be that Walsh didn't apologize. He appeared on CNN and said he wouldn't have removed the post but Twitter forced him to. Crowell, though, knows he is an NFL player many people look up to. Whatever anger he might have felt and however justified it might have been, the image was a hideous incitement. And it was particularly ill timed given that Cleveland is hosting the Republican National Convention next week and is thus especially conceed about security. The Cleveland Browns didn't respond to a request for comment. However, the team released a statement to various media outlets. "We have spoken to Isaiah regarding his , ...ادامه مطلب

  • Hypercars, sports cars, SUVs and bags of mulch: Our week on Instagram - Roadshow

  • RoadshowNewsCar CultureHypercars, sports cars, SUVs and bags of mulch: Our week on InstagramOne of these days, we're going to have a real boring week, where Roadshow and Carfection lie dormant and catch up on our vast to-do lists. But this week is not that week, so once again, we're back with yet another thinly veiled plea to start following us on Instagram.Carfection's Alex Goy is a real piece of crap. Not only did he attend the unveiling of Aston Martin's AM-RB 001 hypercar collaboration with Red Bull, but he also ended up spending some time with the Bugatti Chiron, the successor to the Veyron. I'm assuming he sold his soul to the devil, but I haven't heard him play the blues, so I can't be sure about that.Roadshow's week was a bit more grounded. Our San Francisco crew spent the week filming our small-crossover Rivals feature, going off-road with three cars that will probably never go off-road again. Jon Wong and Chris Paukert scampered off to Gingerman Raceway to film a Shootout with an Alfa Romeo 4C and a BMW M2. Before the 4C left, though, I spent the weekend with it, wherein I attempted to retrieve mulch from my local garden center with limited success. Sorry about the smell, Jon. • Old cars, NASCARs and way too many red cars: Our week on Instagram - Roadshow

  • RoadshowNewsCar CultureOld cars, NASCARs and way too many red cars: Our week on InstagramIf you ask a member of Carfection or Roadshow what they've been up to in the past week, the answer is usually along the lines of, "Hold on, I'm super busy right now." We're not being jerks -- we are actually busy. Which is why a great way to keep track of our antics is by following us on Instagram.Carfection started out the week at Goodwood, then Alex taught his mom to drift. Following that, Ol' Baldy brought us some of the first pictures of the new Porsche Panamera. Drew, on the other hand, spent the week indulging childhood fantasies by driving a Ghostbusters Cadillac and some proper stock cars. I'm hoping the words "Shake and Bake!" were thrown around a few times.Meanwhile, over at Roadshow, Chris Paukert is once again bucking trends. I have a red car (Miata). Emme Hall has a red car (Audi R8 V10). Jon Wong has two red cars (Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, Chevrolet SS). But Chris? Chris has a blue car. I forgive him, though, because it's a BMW M2 and it's everything I wished the M4 was but isn't. It's such a great car. • RoadshowNewsCar CultureGoodwood, Le Mans and some cars, too: Our week on InstagramThere's no stopping us. Between the continued onslaught of motorsport events, first-drive opportunities and our regular rotation of review cars, Carfection and Roadshow are two very busy bees. If you aren't following us on Instagram, you could be missing out on some prime content that may not leave that speCarcific medium. What I'm trying to say is, why aren't you following us on Instagram yet?Carfection's based in Europe, where all the cool motorsport events happen to be. Since we last checked in with 'em, the boys have been to Le Mans, and they're currently at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Alex Goy also took a spin in Mini's track-day hatch, the John Cooper Works Challenge. Drew also went to Spa to drive the 2017 Nissan GT-R.As for Roadshow, we've been plenty busy, too. Tim, the lucky son of a gun that he is, went to Ferrari's museum in Italy to get an up-close look at its Corse Clienti program, and he sidled up against some of the most impressive metal ever made. We also brought the long-term MX-5 back out, drove the new Mercedes E-Class and schlepped a new Chrysler Pacifica all the way to the east coast. • Instagram will soon automatically translate foreign languages in-app - CNET

  • Enlarge Image Instagram Fresh off hitting 500 million users, Instagram has announced that user bios, comments and captions posted in foreign languages will be automatically translated to the user's native language. Now, we can better enjoy the snaps of breakfast, dogs and memes posted by our brothers and sisters abroad (and the occasional photo featuring actual humans, too). "The Instagram community has grown faster and become more global than we ever imagined," the company wrote in its post announcing the news. "We're excited that you'll soon be able to understand the full story of a moment, no matter what language you speak."It appears that not every language will be supported from day one, with a help page explaining, "If translations aren't showing up, it could be because we couldn't detect or don't currently support the language."Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب
