[embedded content] Twice a year, around the time of the autumnal and veal equinoxes, is the Solar Dynamics Observatory's eclipse season. From its vantage point in geosynchronous orbit around the Earth, the SDO's view of the sun is blocked once a day by the Earth. And on the rare occasion, both the Earth and the moon pass between the SDO and the sun -- a rare double eclipse. One of these took place on September 1, when first the Earth, then the moon, were captured blocking out the sun as the SDO filmed the whole thing in hi-res. It's not quite as dramatic as a solar eclipse take from the Earth, but it's still interesting if you know what you're looking at. Normally a solar eclipse seen from Earth, as the moon passes between the sun and us, has sharp crisp edges, but a lunar eclipse, where the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, is a little fuzzier. It's the same for the SDO eclipses, but write large. Samsung has just taken the wraps off its new Gear S3 smartwatch.The Gear S3 is a large 46mm digital timepiece powered by Samsung's Tizen operating system. Nine contestants playing Hacker Jeopardy in a crowded Las Vegas ballroom room probably didn't expect to become the latest symbol of the tech industry's struggles to include women.But then the master of ceremonies told them one of the categories would be "Dicks." The answers were tongue in cheek, like "Dick Cheney" and "Charles Dickens." But then came a question about an actual dick. KGI Security's Ming-Chi Kuo, who last year correctly predicted Apple would launch the iPhone SE, says there are two new Apple Watches coming in the second half of 2016, MacRumours reports. One model will apparently be an incremental upgrade to the current Watch, with a better processor and improved waterproofing. A second model, to be called the Apple Watch 2, boasts those improvements plus more precise location tracking thanks to GPS and a barometer, as well as a bigger battery. Ming-Chi also suspects Apple will introduce LTE connectivity to the line in 2017. That'll mean you can use the Watch without needing to connect to a phone or Wi-Fi. Apple in June unveiled a new OS for the Watch. The company was contacted for comment but did not immediately respond. Despite enduring a drop in shipments, the Apple Watch is still leading the smartwatch pack. 1.6 million of the devices were shipped in the second quarter of this year -- a sizeable decrease from the 3.6 million shipped in the same quarter last year, but still far ahead of the 600,000 that Samsung did with its Galaxy Gear range. The Apple Watch 2 isn't Ming-Chi's only Apple prediction for this year. The analyst previously said that the company would be releasing a heavily revamped MacBook Pro in late 2016. In his latest video "Liquid Nitrogen Freeze-Ray Vs. Flamethrower" -- posted on YouTube this past week -- the Backyard Scientist has some fun with liquid nitrogen.After filling a stainless-steel thermos with liquid nitrogen, the video maker shows how pressure from the liquid tuing into a gas makes the nitrogen come out the tube, which is attached on the top. The result is an impressive cloud of cold water vapor that can shoot from the liquid nitrogen squirt gun at 20 feet. Using the liquid nitrogen squirt gun, Backyard Scientist cools off a friend, freezes flowers and even attempts to put out a computer laptop fire. But if that wasn't exciting enough, the video also shows a battle between the liquid nitrogen squirt gun and a DIY flamethrower -- made using engine starting fluid, to see which is the more powerful of the two.
