Prepare your dancing Poe Dameron gifs, because the teaser for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" has arrived, and not a single Bothan had to die to bring you this information.
The 10-second teaser landed on YouTube ahead of the full trailer's debut on "Good Moing America" on Thursday. In case the title didn't give it away, "Rogue One" is a Star Wars movie.
While the teaser doesn't give much away (or anything, really), the sound of screeching TIE fighter engines and blaster fire is enough to get Star Wars fans salivating.
Starring Felicity Jones ("The Theory of Everything"), "Haibal's" titular caibal Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk of "Firefly" fame, "Rogue One" is a prequel to "Episode IV: A New Hope" that centres on a plucky band of rebels on a mission to steal the plans for the Empire's galactic superweapon, the Death Star.
Gareth Edwards, the director behind the 2014 "Godzilla" reboot, will be helming the standalone Star Wars movie. It's the first in a new series of spin-offs that step outside the episodic Skywalker-centric saga we've seen so far. Two more spin-offs, focused on a younger version of alleged nerf herder Han Solo and Sarlacc-fodder/bounty hunter Boba Fett, have also been aounced since Disney took ownership of the franchise.
"Rogue One" is due to hit theatres on 16 December 2016. If nothing else, it'll tide over the long wait between now and the delayed follow-up to "The Force Awakens".
