Theranos the subject of criminal investigations - CNET

Federal prosecutors and the US Securities and Exchange Commission have launched criminal and civil investigations into whether blood-testing firm Theranos misled investors about the state of its product. Subpoenas regarding the startup have been sent to Walgreens Boots Alliance and the New York State Department of Health, according to the Wall Street Joual, which first reported the investigations.

"The company continues to work closely with regulators and is cooperating fully with all investigations," Theranos said in a statement.

The US Attoeys Office for the Northe District of Califoia, one of the agencies said to be investigating the startup, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The company has been under scrutiny since a Joual report in October that suggested the company's blood-testing devices were flawed, leading to questions of their accuracy.
