Apple's not-so-secret Project Titan electric-car program is on a roll, as Apple poaches yet another engineer from Tesla Motors. David Masiukiewicz joined Apple earlier this month to become senior model maker at Apple's Product Realization Lab, according to a report Friday from 9to5Mac.
Masiukiewicz, who left Tesla in March, previously listed his title as "senior CNC programmer R&D hardware prototyping" on LinkedIn. In other words, he helped to build prototypes of components used on Tesla's powertrain, suspension and chassis.
That background and Masiukiewicz's new place of work -- combined with Apple's hiring of Tesla Engineering VP Chris Porritt and former Andretti Autosport CNC shop supervisor Kevin Harvey -- hints strongly that Apple is prototyping car parts. The Product Realization Lab has also been used to model other Apple products, including Macs and mobile devices.
Apple declined to comment.
