Uber, Google and Ford form self-driving car coalition - Roadshow

Reuters quotes ex-US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration official David Strickland as saying, "The best path for this iovation is to have one clear set of federal standards, and the coalition will work with policymakers to find the right solutions that will facilitate the deployment of self-driving vehicles."

Driverless cars are being developed by numerous car companies. Proponents of self-driving tech say that it has the potential to be much safer than standard human driving, though policymakers are likely to have many conces about the implications of letting a machine take the wheel. Earlier this year Google accepted that one of its self-driving cars was at least party responsible for an accident involving a bus.

Google, Uber and Ford did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
