Google reportedly confirmed this week that it will not back out as the official live-stream provider for the 2016 Republican National Convention in the face of protests demanding it do so as a stand against candidate Donald Trump's inflammatory speech.
Google told Politico that it is not deterred by critics who say working the convention is essentially a show of support for Trump and his harsh rhetoric targeting women, immigrants and minorities. The company will reportedly continue to provide the live stream, in addition to convention videos, election trend reports, virtual reality tools and other data to viewers and attendees. It provided similar services at the Democratic and Republican conventions in 2012 and for both parties' presidential debates earlier this year, Politico said.
A plane trailing a #dumptrump baer and dozen or so demonstrators gathered outside Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Califoia, on Thursday to deliver a petition with a half-million signatures, the latest in a trend of activist demands for corporations to think twice about sponsoring the RNC this year.
We've reached out to Google for comment and are awaiting a response.
