It looks like Radiohead's Thom Yorke is just teasing a new album. Just, get it?
Peter Wafzig/Redfes/Getty ImagesRadiohead took a cue from one of their songs over the weekend and showed us how to disappear completely. But the band's Web presence was not in limbo for long.
Fans may have felt let down by the British band deleting every post from their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. But if you were climbing up the walls at this strange behaviour, you can stop whispering about it -- they haven't left you high and dry. I might be wrong, but it looks like we'll soon have everything in its right place once again, as a video creeps onto the band's briefly empty Instagram account.
The band is still thinking about you, its seems -- they pulled the ripcord first on a clip of what sounded like the dawn chorus, the time when a bird in the moing bellows its song. That was followed by another mysterious teaser today, featuring some kind of ritual like the film "The Wicker Man" in the style of old British children's TV shows like "Trumpton" and "Camberwick Green":
The scrutiny of the social media age can feel life in a glasshouse, and keeping track of Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and the rest is like spiing plates. So it might have been no surprise if the band had decided to give up the ghost. Frontman Thom Yorke has previously made no bones about having the knives out for music streaming, which he saw as a wolf at the door of the music industry, but this latest baffling behaviour doesn't mean he's gone off in a sulk about technology again. Instead, we're optimistic this is just a teaser for a new album to spend our dollars and cents on -- if we're lucky.
