Yahoo's Marissa Mayer defends her maternity leave plans - CNET

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, who gave birth to twins last year, says she is the exception to Yahoo's mateity and pateity leave schemes. Mayer has publicly stated that she would only take a limited time off work and would retu to work shortly after her babies are delivered.

Mayer has received criticism over her remark, with critics pointing out that she was setting a bad example to women with the implication that they should be "giving up mateity leave for their careers." That, obviously, didn't sit well with Mayer, who tweeted out numbers defending her decision.

According to Mayer, in 2015, 349 of the 469 women employees at Yahoo took the maximum 14 weeks of leave, with the remaining 25 percent taking only less than a month. She also added that 823 men at Yahoo also took pateity time off (up to 14 weeks as well) and that both leave schemes were also available to parents who have adopted or had a baby through a surrogate.
