Some users have taken to Twitter to express their surprise -- or outrage -- over the change, which currently shows up for some users and not others. One Google user, @MikeClise, tweeted: "Really didn't like being a "black and blue" guinea pig @google. I thought I was going insane with the black links."
Others called the change "confusing" and "terrible." Some just expressed curiosity over the shift or simply commented "wow."
Google has a long history of testing tweaks on its search results page, the company's cash cow. If you wind up with unwanted ink-black links, there's hope yet. You can join band together with like-minded folks under the Twitter hashtag #BringBacktheBlue, or try shaking yourself free from the test group by logging off and logging back in again.
"We're always ruing many small-scale experiments with the design of the results page," a Google spokeswoman said. "We're not quite sure that black is the new blue."
