Definitive Technology's flagship 9000 speakers include innovative Atmos dock - CNET

Definitive Technology has unveiled a full line of flagship speakers which are designed to cope with the latest "object-based" soundtracks for home theater.

The new collection consists of four floorstanders which include the BP9020 ($1300/pair), BP9040 ($1800/pair), BP9060 ($2200/pair) and flagship BP9080X ($3500/pair).

While the BP9080X includes an integrated height module for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X effects, the other three speakers include a port for the optional A90 attachment ($499/pair). The proprietary connector for the A90 is hidden under a machined aluminum plate on each floorstander, and the module's boundaries are designed to sit flush with all of the compatible speakers.

All of the speakers feature aluminum tweeters in a bipole configuration -- front and rear -- in addition to midrange drivers (between 3.5-inch and 5.25-inch depending on the model), and powered subwoofers. Yes, in addition to speaker wires you will need to plug the 9000 series into the wall.

The range also includes three center channel speakers -- the CS9040 ($499), CS9060 ($699) and CS9080 ($999) and two sets of surround speakers the SR9040 ($500/pair)and SR9080 ($700/pair).
