After being found wandering alone near a Manitoba airport, Aurora was the first orphan polar bear cub to be brought to the zoo.
Assiniboine Park Zoo
It's decorative doo-doo fit for a disco. The polar bears at a Winnipeg zoo are pooping out glitter, and it's all like a terrible Mariah Carey movie up in there.
Zookeepers at the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba, add different colors of glitter to the horse meat (Mr. Ed, nooooo!) fed to eight of the nine polar bears, CBC News reports.
Purple, red and gold are among the glitter colors, and the additive is plain old nontoxic craft glitter, the kind your Girl Scout might use to decorate a milk carton bank.
It doesn't harm the animals, and it allows researchers to identify which sample came from which furry friend.
Tests have been performed on the droppings for two years to track levels of stress hormones in the bears as they adjust to life at the zoo, CBC News says.
The zoo is home to the Leatherdale Inteational Polar Bear Conservation Centre, which focuses on polar bear transition, research and education.
The glitter diet isn't a new technique for animals in captivity -- a 2002 study discusses glitter being fed to domestic cats for the same reason. Still, it's hard not to be a fan of tuing plain old poop into something that shimmers. And they said only unicos pooped rainbows.
