X-Men tale 'Legion' finds a home on TV - CNET

Hot on the heels of "X-Men: Apocalypse" and its $80 Memorial Day weekend in the US, FX Networks has aounced an order for an X-Men-related TV series, "Legion."

A pilot for "Legion" was crafted late last year, and it stars Dan Stevens ("Downton Abbey"), Aubrey Plaza ("Parks & Rec"), Jean Smart ("Fargo," "24"), Rachel Keller ("Fargo") and Katie Aselton ("The League"). The series revolves around David Haller, a schizophrenic who has struggled with mental illness most of his life -- at least he thought he did until he begins to realize the voices he hears may be real. In the comics, Haller was the son of Professor Charles Xavier and had a wide range of mutant abilities. No telling yet how deep the show will delve into his powers or background, even.

"Legion" will be the second live-action Marvel series on television, and the first outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that doesn't mean it's not all in the family: Marvel TV's Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb is listed as a producer, as well as X-Men helmers Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer, in addition to a few others.

For the most part, we can expect this to be a strictly mutants-centric show, but that does leave room for those precious Deadpool cameos. Production on the eight-episode series begins this year with a tentative premiere date of 2017.
