Seamus Bye/CNETAMD's finally ready to get back in the CPU fight against Intel, though its upcoming Zen CPUs will only be available in products in late 2016 or early 2017.
Designed as a scalable architecture, Zen will be first used for desktops, then in servers before making its way to AMD's accelerated processing units (APUs) for notebooks.
Codenamed "Summit Ridge," the eight-core, 16 thread Zen CPU made its first public appearance here in Taipei at Computex and will boast of a 40 percent increase in performance.
