James Martin/CNETTony Fadell, co-founder and CEO of smart-home device maker Nest, is leaving the company.
"I have decided that the time is right to 'leave the Nest,'" Fadell said in a blog post Friday. He said the "transition has been in progress since late last year." Fadell's new role will be as an adviser to Google's parent company, Alphabet, and CEO Larry Page.
"This will give me the time and flexibility to pursue new opportunities to create and disrupt other industries," he said.
Google bought the maker of the Nest Leaing Thermostat for $3.2 billion in 2014.
Marwan Fawaz will join Nest as the company's new CEO, Fadell said.
