Ilya S. Savenok, Getty ImagesSony's Spider-Man reboot got a little bigger today, as "Community" alum and rapper Donald Glover joined the cast, Variety reports.
Glover is joining a cast that already includes Tom Holland as Spider-Man, who made his debut in "Captain America: Civil War", Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Marissa Tomei as the latest in a string of Benjamin-Buttoning Aunt Mays. (If this is setting up a Tony Stark-Aunt May romance a la "Only You", so much the better.)
No aouncements have been made as to who Glover will be playing, but he previously provided the voice for an animated version of Miles Morales, a different incaation of the web-slinger. For the record, my totally unsubstantiated money is on Eddie Brock, aka Venom.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" will be produced by Marvel Cinematic Universe mastermind Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Previously, Sony owned the film rights and prevented any on-screen crossover with other Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America. As we already saw with "Civil War", the reboot will fold Spider-Man into the MCU proper. The film is slated for release on 7 July 2017.
