Tumblr is entering the live video space, according to a promotional web page unearthed by Twitter user David Chartier. The blogging platform, which has 550 million monthly users, will be competing against Twitter's Periscope, Facebook Live and Amazon Twitch.
The web page at livevideo.tumblr.com gives a date of June 21 for the launch, and a program of livestreams kicking of at 4.00 p.m. EST with a live broadcast from the surface of Mars. Other events include a basketball-throwing tutorial with a Harlem Globetrotter and inflating a very big thing in a very small room.
Tumblr itself has not made any public aouncements except for the website, but TechCrunch confirmed the page as official, noting that live video will also be available to users.
Tumblr did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
