Scientists have discovered a new scary-looking 7.9-inch long amphibious centipede - CNET

There's a new centipede in town, and it's one that you shouldn't mess with. The 7.9-inch long S. cataracta, Latin for waterfall, features the ability to swim and a venomous bite. The good news for most of you though (unless you live where I do) is that it's only found in Southeast Asia.

Discovered by George Beccaloni of the Natural History Museum in London during his honeymoon to Thailand in 2001, the giant centipede was discovered under a rock near a stream when it then fled to said stream instead of the forest. After capturing the centipede, the specimen languished in the collection for years, as an skeptical expert has cast doubts over the centipede's ability -- similar species were usually found in dry habitats.

However, it was only recently where Beccaloni's colleagues found two more specimens in Laos and had DNA testing done to confirm that it was a new species of giant centipedes. If you happen to dip in a lake in Southeast Asia and get bitten, the bite won't kill you, but it will hurt, says National Geographic.
