When you get on a plane, there are a number of things you must do.
First, check whether the person next to you is malodorous and might shortly bring out a laptop and elbow you while typing throughout the whole flight.
Next and perhaps most important is to take a selfie.
You know this is true, and now Virgin America wants you to create the most glorious selfie possible.
The airline has just launched a Snapchat filter, one that promises to bring mood to your selfies.
"Let's face it (pun intended) -- our love for selfies has been known for some time," says the airline on its blog.
Yes, it has. But, like our love for eating excessively, it's not necessarily a positive thing.
The airline, though, is truly excited.
"With the new Virgin America brand geofilter, it's now even easier and even more fun to show off where you're going by taking a moodlit selfie at the departure gate or onboard from the aircraft before we take to the sky," its blurb gushes.
Indeed, what would your friends do if they didn't know you were about to board a plane? They'd think you were just another dull person who doesn't take selfies when they're about to board a plane.
Instead, the airline promises, "We've even added in a special placeholder 'Wheels up____' so you can tell your friends exactly where you're headed."
This is very useful for those who just can't find the right words to tell their friends where they're flying.
Of course, Virgin America might currently be less conceed about its selfies than about its very self.
It's a rather nice airline that's just been bought by Alaska Airlines. The new parent has graciously declared it might keep the Virgin America brand name, but only might.
If it does, will Virgin America loyalists protest? By refusing to take selfies on board, perhaps?
