Candace Payne became inteet-famous for a video capturing her infectious and eaest bout of laughter in a Chewbacca mask. Now "Chewbacca Mom" is back with a more serious and somber viral video that also has some laughing, but this time it's at her rather than with her.
Payne's unassuming Facebook Live video back in May launched her on that particularly meteoric and fleeting rise to fame that only the viral nature of the inteet can provide. She's been spotted on "Good Moing America" and riding in a minivan with James Corden and J.J. Abrams, among many other appearances.
But inteet fame is fickle. On Saturday, Payne went on Facebook Live to respond to the murder of five police officers at a Dallas march, protesting police brutality with a characteristically eaest and poignant rendition of Michael Jackson's "Heal the World."
Despite the positive sentiment, the reception to Payne's latest video has been far more mixed than the original social-media sensation that launched her name onto national media. Zach Braff is among the many on Twitter who are not impressed with Chewbacca Mom's sophomore effort at virality:
Of course, there are others who think Payne could be just what the country is looking for.
All in all, I'll take another viral video from Payne over an encore from this huge snake in a toilet any day. What are your thoughts on Chewbacca Mom's enduring fame? Let us know in the Idea or @crave on Twitter.
