Twitter took off on the speculation that Donald Trump is making Indiana Gov. Mike Pence his vice presidential pick, according to CBS News and numerous media reports.
Pence's name became a trending topic almost immediately after the reports were published.
But key Trump aides, including campaign chairman Paul Manafort and spokesman Jason Miller, downplayed the notion Thursday on the social network. They said the presumptive GOP presidential nominee hasn't made a decision regarding the conservative goveor:
The denial didn't stop scrutiny of Pence as veep:
Trump has previously said Pence was on the short list for VP, along with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Pence is in the midst of a reelection campaign for goveor. He faced intense scrutiny last year from tech and major business leaders after a signing a "religious freedom" law in Indiana that they viewed as legalizing discrimination against gays and lesbians. Following the backlash, Pence removed some of the law's harshest language.
Earlier Thursday, organizers of the Republican National Convention released a speakers list for the event which takes place next week in Cleveland. The list includes billionaire investor Peter Thiel, who was behind Facebook and PayPal.
