Never one to shun the spotlight, Donald Trump took to Twitter Friday to announce Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his pick for vice president.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee originally planned to name his running mate on Friday, but cancelled his press conference in New York City out of respect to the deadly attacks in Nice, France that left more than 70 people dead late Thursday.
Trump tweeted he will introduce Pence on Saturday.
While Pence's selection comes as no surprise, the announcement comes a day after key Trump aides, took to (where else) Twitter to downplay the speculation.
Trump previously said Pence was on the short list for VP, along with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
On Friday, Pence dropped his re-election bid for goveor. He has faced intense scrutiny last year from tech and major business leaders after a signing a "religious freedom" law in Indiana that they viewed as legalizing discrimination against gays and lesbians. Following the backlash, Pence removed some of the law's harshest language.
Pence on his Twitter account Friday moing did not have any acknowledgement of Trump's announcement as his last tweet was his official statement on the France attacks along with three words: "This. Must. End."
