Tim Cook mispronounces 'Pokemon.' Earth shatters - CNET

He was asked during the Apple eaings call about augmented reality and the stunning success of Pokemon Go.

Cook replied that Apple is investing greatly in AR. He added: "The number one thing is to make sure our products work well with other developers' kind of products like Pokemon. That's why you see so many iPhones in the wild chasing Pokemons."

That quote is accurate in terms of the words written down. However, he didn't say "Po-ke-mon," as so many have over the last few weeks.

His version was "Pokay-man." He even pluralized it into "Pokay-mans." (Listen for yourself, around 51:00)

Aficionados insist that this is not (P)okay, man.

Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Some on Twitter naturally amused themselves at Cook's expense. However, Gizmodo claims that one of its readers, Jennifer Rezny, emailed Apple's CEO and explained that "Pokemon" is a contraction of "Pocket Monsters."

Rezny says Cook actually replied with a simple smiling emoji.

We all carry strange pronunciations around with us. I have been forced to enjoy them all my life when people attempt to pronounce my name. (Well, except in Polish restaurants.)
