Uchimura roamed too far in his search for Pokemon.
Koki Nagahama/Getty ImagesJapanese Olympic gymnast Kohei Uchimura loves catching zubats and pidgeys, but perhaps a little too much.
The five-time Olympic medalist racked up a $5,000 phone bill for data roaming charges while playing Pokemon Go in the run-up to the upcoming games in Brazil. Teammate Kenzo Shirai said Uchimura "looked dead at the team meal that day" after receiving the bill.
But, things ended up working out for Uchimura: His phone company let him pay a daily flat rate of $30 a day instead of the 500,000 yen bill, according to Japan's Kyodo news agency.
