screenshot by Lance Whitney/CNET Apple now has a new tactic to try to get you to open your wallet. Updated on Thursday, the Apple Store app will now recommend and help you shop for products that work with the Apple devices you already own. So if you purchase an iPad, the app may propose buying a Smart Cover to accompany it. Or if you pick up an iPhone, Apple may suggest a dock to sync and charge the device. For me, the app pointed to a case for my iPhone 6. You see your recommended products as you scroll down the app's Discover screen. The new feature was leaked in late July by Bloomberg. A feature that analyzes your purchase history may strike some people as an intrusion into their private ...

Enlarge ImageApple is wooing the cybersecurity industry. James Martin/CNET How much is a flaw in Apple software worth? The answer to that question has long been a mystery, because Apple didn't pay security researchers who reported bugs to the company. That changed Thursday, when the head of Apple security, Ivan Krstic, said the company would pay bug bounties -- up to $200,000 -- to researchers who find and report...

Getty Images/EyeEm Apple may not have given up on TV programming after all. After pausing plans last year for a service that would stream live TV over the inteet, the company is now focusing on creating a digital TV guide that would work on Apple TV boxes, iPhones and iPads, according to a Recode report Thursday. Apple is in talks with TV programmers and other video companies about a service that would tell you what's on where and help you watch it, the site reported. The service would corral information on programs available on video apps such as those offered by HBO, Netflix and ESPN without having to launch each app individually. The movie or TV show of your choice would begin with a singl...

A still from Apple's latest commercial. Apple We've got more similarities than differences. That's the key theme of Apple's latest commercial, which is set to air during the opening ceremony at the Rio Olympics on Friday night, but was posted early on Apple.com and YouTube. It is the latest ad in Apple's "shot on iPhone" campaign, which uses photos and videos taken by its customers. The intent is to show off the camera capability of its iPhones. But Apple has focused more on social responsibility under CEO Tim Cook, and the commercial, narrated by author Maya Angelou, feels like it's part of that focus. The title: "Human Family."Let's block ads! بخوانید...

The updated remote control app for the 2015 Apple TV has arrived. The new app, called Apple TV Remote, is basically a software version of the Apple TV's tiny remote control: There is a large area at the top for gesture controls, making it easy to navigate around the user interface. Siri has a dedicated button allowing users to ask for a specific show or to use voice to search. And the Game Mode makes use of the accelerometer and gyroscope built into Apple mobile devices. And, like the Apple TV's forthcoming software update, it also offers a "dark mode" option. The app was first promised last year soon after the fourth-generation Apple TV box was introduced.
