Here's a plan for a cloaking device to hide the Earth from scary aliens - CNET

Nothing to see here... NASA What if there is extraterrestrial intelligence out there in the universe, but the aliens tu out to be hostile? Think "Independence Day" rather than "E.T." If that's the case, world leaders may want to give Alex Teachey and David Kipping at Columbia University's Cool Worlds Lab a call before our visitors show up. In a new paper, Teachey and Kipping outline how to create a cloaking device for our planet, to hide us all from the view of alien civilizations who may be looking for a new target for their latest long-distance Starkiller Base. It sounds like an elaborate April Fools' Day prank for the sci-fi set, but the paper was published online Wednesday in the joual M...

A new iPhone launched! But where are the lines? (The 3:59, Ep. 20) - CNET

What if Apple launched an iPhone, and no one showed up? Well, that's sort of what happened today when the company released its iPhone SE to little fanfare. There weren't any lines, but a couple of people did show up to buy the new, smaller phone. CNET's Ben Fox Rubin was on the scene and shared his thoughts. Also on the podcast, we discuss those other products coming out today, the Amazon Tap and Echo Dot. For some, that may be the more exciting news. It might be high time for Apple to consider making its own version of the Echo. Speaking of Amazon, we try not to snicker as we talk about the online retail giant's new Dash button for Trojan condoms. Also, stick around for after the first 3:59...

Someone in America probably wants all four of these buttons, right? Amazon Buying more Doritos at the simple push of a button sounds like an awfully dangerous idea. Let's hope Amazon knows what it's doing. Last year, the e-retail giant introduced Dash buttons, which are small, Inteet-coected buttons that people can click to purchase household goods like paper towels or detergent. That aouncement was just before April 1, 2015, and some reporters wondered if the concept was a joke. Guess who's laughing now! To mark the first aiversary of these tiny buttons, Amazon on Thursday unleashed dozens more of them, tripling the current lineup to surpass 100 different buttons. The new buttons include Ar...
