Intel on Wednesday issued a recall of its Basis Peak fitness watch, urging owners to immediately discontinue use of the device out of conce overheating could cause bus.The company first shared its conces of overheating in June, pinning its hopes for a solution on a software update. That plan did not pan out as hoped, Intel said in a statement that urged customers to retu the devices immediately for a full refund. "We had hoped to update the software on your watch to address the problem," the company said in a statement. "Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we aren't able to develop such a solution without completely compromising the user experience. When T-Mobile in early June launched its freebie program, which gave away pizza, streaming movies and, for some, shares of the company, it likely didn't have a sense of how quickly its customers would embrace the idea. Its T-Mobile Tuesday app crashed on launch day. The free pizza giveaway overwhelmed partner Domino's, and the pizza chain backed out of the program. Not that any of this halted T-Mobile's momentum. The carrier replaced Domino's with a $15 voucher for a Lyft ride and earlier this month said that blockbuster hit game Pokemon Go wouldn't count against its customers' data for a year. The perks offered through T-Mobile's Un-carrier campaign continue to lure in new customers and foster loyalty among existing ones through the brand. The latest evidence: the company's second-quarter results, which saw a gain of 646,000 net new postpaid phone customers, or folks who pay at the end of the month. The tuover rate for postpaid customers, meanwhile, fell to a record low 1.27 percent. The Un-carrier campaign has helped T-Mobile lead the industry in growth, at times outstripping all of its competitors in the critical metric of new phone customers. Pokémon Go downloads surpasses every other mobile game developed in the last two years, according to Sensor Tower. The instantly popular app has been downloaded 75 million times, according to Sensor Tower, a mobile app analytics group. Pokémon Go hit its first 50 million in just 19 days, far surpassing other mega hit games from the last two years. The numbers are impressive. Color Switch took 77 days and Candy Crush Jelly Saga took 112. The app made it to the top of the App Store's downloads and revenue rankings in every country where it's available. Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, achieved this fame without being featured on the App Store or Google Play and with little of its own advertising, according to Sensor Tower.The app now holds the record for the most mobile game downloads in the first month after launch, even though its only in 32 out of the 100 countries that host the App Store and Google Play, Sensor Tower said. Pokémon Go expanded to Australia and New Zealand on July 5 and in Hong Kong and France in late July. Firefox maker Mozilla is clamping down harder on Flash. Adobe Systems Firefox parent Mozilla is taking its battle against Adobe Flash a few steps further. In 2017, Firefox will require "click-to-activate approval" from you before you can trigger Flash-enabled videos and other Flash content on a website, Mozilla engineering manager Benjamin Smedberg said Wednesday in a blog post. This means the Flash content will remain dormant unless you actively click on a link or icon that says: "Activate Adobe Flash." You can currently do the same thing yourself in Firefox by manually setting Flash to "Ask to activate." But next year's move will be dramatic due to the new default status for all Firefox users. Adobe Flash has long been a necessary feature that enables web developers to offer games, video and streaming media via web browsers. But the Flash plug-in, which gets installed in the browser, has been blasted for its constant security holes and performance problems. The industry has been gravitating toward HTML5 as a replacement for Flash, though the move has been a slow one. Firefox has advised web developers who use Flash as well as Microsoft Silverlight for video to make the switch to HTML5 as quickly as possible. Smedberg said that Firefox supports encrypted video playback using Adobe Primetime and Google Widevine as alteatives to plug-in based video formats such as Flash. Mozilla isn't waiting until next year to start reining in Flash. Starting next month, the company will block certain Flash content not considered essential to the "user experience." At the same time, it will continue to support legacy Flash content, meaning content that can't be viewed any other way. Mozilla expects this move to offer "enhanced security, improved battery life, faster page load and better browser responsiveness," Smedberg said. Josh Miller/CNET After months of back-and-forth, it looks as though Apple is on the cusp of officially getting a green light to open stores in India.The Cupertino, Califoia-based company is currently disqualified from opening stores exclusively selling its own products due to Indian laws stating that a company doing so needs to source 30 percent of its products locally.But Prime Minister Narendra Modi's govement will soon announce a three-year exemption to this rule for Apple, and other "cutting-edge" weste companies, Bloomberg reports. Previous reports indicated that this relaxed requirement will only be good for two or three years. During that time, Apple would be expected to work out agreements with local manufacturers under which it would be able to buy its components locally and eventually meet the local sourcing rules. Android leads the mobile device market in game installs. Unity3D Well-played, Android.Google's mobile software accounted for 82 share of mobile games downloaded during the second quarter of 2016, development company Unity3D said in a new report on Wednesday. That's a wide gap over the 17 percent of game downloads notched by Apple's iOS.In certain countries, the lead is even more pronounced. During the second quarter, game downloads on Android devices in Indonesia racked up a share of 96 percent, while in South Korea and Brazil each eaed 92 percent.Games are a hot commodity with mobile users, responsible for an estimated 85 percent of mobile app market sales last year, according to Unity. Android holds the lion's share of those games in large part because there are more Android devices in consumers' hands worldwide.Among the top 10 countries observed by Unity3D for its report, the only one where iOS took the lead in the second quarter was in Japan with a 53 percent share of downloaded games. In terms of iOS devices, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 5S were the most popular models with a combined 28 percent share of downloads. Only 15 percent were found on the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.For the second quarter, Samsung reigned supreme among Android device makers with a 35 percent share. Chinese vendor Huawei took second place with a 6.3 percent share, knocking Xiaomi down to third place with a 6.1 percent share. That time has come, with multiple Kia vehicles becoming compatible with the phone systems.At the end of July, Kia will email owners with instructions on how to download and install the update, which can be done without the help of a dealership. To get on the list, you'll have to sign up at MyUVO.com, which is Kia's web portal for its UVO touchscreen infotainment system.The following cars will be eligible for the update. They're models equipped with either navigation systems or the non-navigation UVO3 system: 2017 Forte, 2015-2016 Optima/Optima Hybrid, 2015-2016 Sedona, 2014-2016 Soul, 2015-2016 Soul EV, 2016 Sorento and the 2017 Sportage.If you have an iOS or Android phone, these systems can push your phone's capabilities (and user interface) to your dashboard.
