ARM's new CPU provides up to 30 percent better power efficiency and 30 percent higher performance. ARM You may think your iPhone or Galaxy device works just fine today. But wait until you see what it could do with new chips coming in 2017. Think: better battery life (of course), VR-ready graphics, and the ability to run at peak speeds for an entire game without killing your battery. You would even be able to pull 8-megapixel, still photos out of a 4K video you shot (we all know how hard it is to get everyone to look at the camera at the same time). Essentially, you'll be able to do more with your phone for much longer, enabling the spread of new uses like augmented reality and virtual realit...

Even with George Lucas no longer at the helm, Star Wars seems to be left in capable hands with Disney calling the shots at Lucasfilm. But for those of us fans who grow impatient waiting for "Rogue One" to be released, it's up to us to make our own movie magic. So what better way to make an R2-D2 adventure than with drones? In the video "Drone Star Wars" posted by YouTube user Corridor Digital, R2-D2 pilots Luke Skywalker's X-Wing solo with Imperial Stormtroopers in TIE fighters hot on his trail. The X-Wing and TIE fighters are drones that shoot from the ship's point of view, making this a very cool fan film created from the pilots' perspective. "Drone Star Wars" was shot with help from the t...

Filmmaker Keiichi Matsuda's new short "Hyper-Reality" offers a grim look at a future where augmented reality has permeated just about every aspect of life (with not-so-great results). We thought it was thought-provoking.We're also talking about the University of Bristol's GauntLev. It's a series of devices designed to pick up, levitate, and manipulate small objects. It's not quite a Doctor Who sonic screwdriver...but it's as close as we can get (for now). I'm making a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. According to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," it's "the best drink in existence." Drinking one feels "like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick." I'm a little scared, but I'm going to do it anyway and I'm just in time for Towel Day on May 25. Towel Day is dedicated to the life and work of Douglas Adams, the man behind the "Hitchhiker's Guide." That also makes him the creative smartypants behind the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, a drink so potent it's described as "the alcoholic equivalent of a mugging." Credit for the actual creation of the beverage goes to the former president of the galaxy, Zapho...

Mystique actress Jeifer Lawrence's three-movie X-Men deal with Fox ends with this month's X-Men: Apocalypse. The same is true for Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast)--but would they come back for a fourth movie?Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly that the four of them got together and apparently agreed that each would only come back if the others agreed to."Fassbender and McAvoy and I were all talking," she said. "Like, 'Will you come back?' 'I duo.' 'I'll come back, if you come back.' Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn't come back, none of us are."
