Can't let go of Jon Snow? This Meghan Trainor parody is for you - CNET

Dealing with the death of a favorite character is a reality every fan has to face at some point. This is especially true if you're a "Game of Thrones" fan. George R.R. Martin loves to pick off major characters like they're a row of tin ducks in a caival shooting gallery. The death of Jon Snow, however, hit a lot of fans in the gut. Even though he lives in a world where swift and sudden deaths are common, Jon Snow's death at the end of season 5 still felt untouchable to a lot of hardcore fans. Some still haven't come to grips with it, and some flat out refuse to believe he's dead. He's basically the new Elvis. If you're one of those fans who can't accept the fact that Snow has gone to that gr...

Here comes the Doom with this BFG 9000 gun made out of Lego - CNET

The first Doom game, released way back in 1993, introduced some of the most iconic weapons in the history of the first-person shooter genre, like the Chaingun, the Plasma Rifle and the chainsaw. They were so fun to use they set a new standard for players who enjoy carving up their opponents into tiny, bite-size chunks. However, they pale in comparison with the awesome power of the BFG 9000. This massive weapon could obliterate your enemies with heat-seeking balls of deadly plasma and all you had to do was stand in front of them and pull the trigger. It's the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie of killing machines. You just set it, forget it and watch your enemies get beheaded. Now that a new Doom game ...

It's Nerf or nothing in this Team Fortress parody - CNET

Guns and video games go together like Romeo and Juliet. They were always meant to be together even though it feels like the whole world is trying to rip them apart. So what would it look like if a game franchise that uses a ton of deadly weapons tried to tone down the mayhem with some less dangerous options? Believe it or not, it would still look pretty cool. The folks at the YouTube film studio Corridor Digital posted on Monday a Nerf-inspired parody of Valve's multiplayer deathmatch Team Fortress. All of the classes have much less lethal versions of the weapons they use in the game to take out their opponents. The Sniper has a huge Nerf N-Strike Mega Centurion that shoots foam darts instea...

This stretchy stick-on turns your skin into an OLED display - CNET

University of Tokyo/Science Advances We're not quite at the level of watching entire TV shows in the palms of our hands, but blinky temporary tattoos may be a little closer. It's Avengers vs. US presidents in this Jimmy Kimmel trivia challenge - CNET

It seems like comic book movies are becoming the next great American commodity, along with Donald Trump GIFs and ballpark concessions that qualify as weapons of mass destruction. They are so prevalent in our lives that you might not be surprised if people could name more superheroes than US presidents. That's what late-night host Jimmy Kimmel wanted to find on Wednesday's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Kimmel set his crew loose on the streets of Los Angeles to ask random people to name as many members of Marvel's Avengers as they could. Then they asked them to name as many US presidents as they could. They posted some of the more interesting responses from their pedestrian pop quiz on their...

This 1917 image is the earliest proof of exoplanets - CNET

The Kepler mission has found 1,963 confirmed planets outside the solar system, and we know now that there are probably billions more out there. Yet there was a time in the not-so-distant past when we didn't have any evidence of exoplanets at all. In fact, a researcher has just found the very earliest evidence of an exoplanet we have, and it is less than 100 years old.The plate in question, made in 1917 by the then-director of the Caegie Observatories Water Adams at Mount Wilson Observatory, was in the Institutions archives. It was retrieved at the request of University College London researcher Jay Farihi, who was researching a particular star, van Maanen's star, a white dwarf discovered by ...

Move over, phony 'hoverboards,' this platform actually flies (Tomorrow Daily 346 show notes) - CNET

As we watched the video of Zapata's Flyboard Air, we noticed it seems to be turbine-powered. If the company's claims are to be believed, Flyboard Air could someday become a true flying personal transport vehicle. We're also enjoying the video from Volocopter, which recently completed the first maed flight of its 18-rotor aircraft. Between this electric helicopter and true flying boards, the future of personal transport looks delightful (albeit a little short-lived, if flight durations are taken into account). Who needs a hoverboard when you can fly around on this thing? (Tomorrow Daily 346) Your browser does not support the audio element. Of course, you can find us everywhere on social media....

Watch this riveting live stream of a rare, newly hatched condor chick - CNET

It's a good thing I have two monitors for my computer. One of them is fully taken up with condors. I'm watching a live camera feed of a day-old Califoia condor chick and its parents. At first, it's soothing. There's dad, condor No. 509, sitting quietly, the chick hidden under his belly. I hear the calls of other birds from outside the nest. Then the action begins. Mom, condor No. 111, shows up to take over babysitting duties. Feathers ruffle, the massive birds interact. I see a glimpse of the small, fuzzy chick. This is better binge-watching than "Daredevil." And don't worry "Silicon Valley" fans, no technicians are trapped in a ravine here. The live feed is a joint project between the Coell ...
