Space station orbits over three hurricanes in epic time-lapse video - CNET

[embedded content] Hurricanes are scary enough at ground level. View them from space and they look almost unreal, like special effects created in a movie studio. NASA released a time-lapse video on Tuesday showing the Inte ational Space Station orbiting over three separate hurricanes. They look both massive and frightening from the station's orbital vantage point. In order, the video shows twin hurricanes Lester and Madeline in the Pacific Ocean and then Gaston in the Atlantic Ocean. Both Lester and Madeline pose a potential threat to the Hawaiian Islands. Gaston is kicking across the Atlantic with wind speeds reaching 100 mph (about 160 kph). Man claims bottles and cans just stick to his head - CNET

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Enlarge ImageThat's a lovely look. WLS-TV screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET I tend to find the silly in the apparently serious.Occasionally, though, the obviously silly comes along and I think: "Wait, might that be actually serious?"And so it was that on the pages of WLS-TV in Illinois, I espied a man with bottles and cans stuck to his head.I grew up with quite a few people who crushed cans on their heads. But this was something far more elevated. It seems that Jamie Keeton has some sort of magical properties in his body that cause inanimate objects to stick to him.The sheer delight of being able to stick a bottle o...

Paper cut: Can a saw made out of paper slice through wood? - CNET

Paper always seemed like the wimpiest player in Rock, Paper, Scissors. Sure, it's easy to imagine a heavy rock crushing a pair of scissors, and we all know that scissors can cut paper. But how does paper win simply by covering rock?Paper proves itself a lot tougher than it looks in a new video from carpenter John Heisz of the I Build It website and YouTube channel. In the simple two-minute video, Heisz uses one sheet of regular white printer paper to cut out a round saw-blade shape, and inserts it in his saw. It seems like the thin piece of paper can't possibly cut anything, but he builds up slowly, testing the blade on paper, then cardboard, then finally moving on to a small piece of wood, which it slices through easily.Don't get too excited, paper pushers. When Heisz tries a thicker cut ...

And while its name might suggest the target market is caterpillars, this is actually for teens -- aka not me. Like other apps not built for me, it's somewhat confusing. Can copper coins prevent your laptop from overheating? - CNET

Time to cash in on a cool way to keep your laptop from overheating. This video from Science Channel shows how to create a heat sink by stacking copper coins on the computer, a tip the host credits to a Japanese Twitter user. "Copper is more thermally conductive than material most laptops are made of, drawing away heat to cool the machine," the channel's video explains. But you can't just go grab a bunch of pennies out of your kid's piggy bank. US pennies were made of pure copper from 1793 to 1837, then varied over the years, according to the US Mint. Since 1982, US pennies have been made of 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper-plated zinc, which is no good for this experiment. Look for the pennies from 1962-1981, the video recommends.IFL Science also points out that US quarter...
