On July 31, a series of Tweets was posted to Hanke's 16,000 followers. They were hashtagged "OurMine" and claimed the hack was for Brazil, where Pokemon Go has yet to be released.One tweet also claimed that Hanke's password was "nopass," but the Quora links to the hacker's explanations have been removed. Interestingly, OurMine is a company that claims to assess social network account security, so the hack seems like a marketing stunt, directing users to upgrade account security. Nevertheless, over on the hashtag, the stunt has gained a reaction, including people in Brazil who think the hack is a poor way to get a point across, and players in other countries who object to the recent update to the game.Exactly how OurMine gained access to Hanke's password is unknown. Add one more premium cable service to Roku's continually growing list of apps. The Starz app, which launched in April, is now available on the company's media streamers, joining Apple TV (the new one, not the old) and Chromecast (via Android and iOS devices). The app gives you access to all of the content available from Starz as well as its sister networks, Starz Encore and Movieplex for a monthly subscription fee of $8.99. If you subscribe to Starz through your cable provider, however, you may not be able to authenticate service on Roku. Comcast, for example, will not allow you to use the app to view Starz content. Other participating cable, satellite and telephone company partners will allow you to authenticate service directly through Roku's Starz app or on a PC or Mac computer. Sundar Pichai James Martin/CNET Google CEO Sundar Pichai seems to have been the latest target of hacker group Ourmine, the hacking group who claimed responsibility for hacking into Mark Zuckerberg's social media accounts earlier this month. The group made several posts to Pichai's Twitter account from his Quora account to Pichai's 508,000 followers, and claimed to have hacked into both.However, unlike the Zuckerberg hack, where entry was gained into his accounts using a password obtained from the massive leak of LinkedIn data, access to Pichai's Quora account seems to have been via a vulnerability on Quora's end. According to The Next Web, Ourmine claims to have reported this vulnerability to Quora, with no response.As of time of writing, Pichai's Twitter and Quora accounts seem to have been retued to normal. Roku Roku entered the Windows 10 era yesterday by releasing a new remote control app for laptops and tablets.The app, which is now available for free in the US from the Windows Store, gives users a new homepage design and the usual slate of features for the streaming set-top box. You'll be able to select channels, search for content, play music and show photos and use Cortana to make your selections. The company said it's the first time that tablet users will be able to use the Roku app to get its full breadth of channels and movies. On the company's blog, Roku Senior Product Manager Matthew Wee said the app would be released inteationally soon and would get more features in the coming weeks. Roku is making it easier for viewers to catch up on the news by adding it into its universal search feature.The search feature -- which is available on current Roku streaming boxes, the Streaming Stick and televisions that have the Roku platform built-in -- now allows for entering in a topic such as "Apple" or "NBA," and will retrieve a listing of videos pertaining to that topic from across many of streaming news channels on the platform. These include news broadcasts from the four major US networks -- such as ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX -- as well as from digital outlets like Yahoo (Disclosure: CBS is the parent company of CNET). The streaming company announced the addition in a blog post on Friday.And what if you don't have a specific topic in mind? News videos can also be searched using the date by entering in the numbers without punctuation (for instance, June 20th would be 620).Roku's search feature has mainly served to help a viewer find a movie or television show across the myriad of digital stores and subscription services available on the platform. Better safe than sorry, or so goes Twitter's latest thinking.The social network on Friday maintained it was not the victim of a hack or data breach, as previously reported. But Michael Coates, Twitter's head of information security, wrote in a blog post that the company has identified some accounts that need "extra protection." Those accounts have been locked, requiring users to reset their passwords in order to access them."If your information was impacted by any of the recent issues -- because of password disclosures from other companies or the leak on the 'dark web' -- then you have already received an email that your account password must be reset," he wrote. " Your account won't be accessible until you do so." Twitter did not disclose how many users were contacted to change their passwords. The latest post from the social network comes three days after a Russian hacker who goes by the name Tessa88 claimed to be in possession of a cache containing email addresses, passwords and useames of 379 million Twitter accounts. The seller reportedly had links to the recent breaches of LinkedIn and MySpace. It's unclear how the hacker came in possession of the information. The useames and passwords could have been collected through other breaches or malware that's on computers stealing passwords, Coates said."The recent prevalence of data breaches from other websites is challenging for all websites -- not just those breached," he said. "Attackers mine the exposed useame, email and password data, leverage automation, and then attempt to automatically test this login data and passwords against all top websites."Twitter users are being urged to use strong passwords and two-factor authentication. The latter is an added layer of security, requiring users after entering their password to type in a special code sent via text to their smartphones for verification. Now, the same is happening to Twitter -- with the same people reportedly responsible.A Russian hacker, who goes by the name Tessa88, claimed on Tuesday to be in possession of a cache containing email addresses, passwords and useames of 379 million Twitter accounts, reports ZDNet. On Wednesday, LeakedSource claimed that the real number of accounts was just under 33 million. That's more than 10 percent of Twitter's monthly active users. Tessa88 is selling the database for 10 bitcoins, or roughly $5,810, AU$7,770 and £4,000, according to ZDNet. The publication also reported that the seller had links to the recent breaches of LinkedIn and Myspace. "To help keep people safe and accounts protected, we've been checking our data against what's been shared from recent password leaks," Twitter said in a Tweet on Tuesday. Black was one of several celebrities caught in a hoax in which Twitter accounts of famous peeps were compromised. Other celebrities whose accounts were taken over included musician Keith Richards and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Hacks against website and social media accounts aren't unusual, and hackers often go after celebrities for notoriety and in an attempt to embarrass them publicly. A major part of the problem is that people often use passwords that are easy to guess, and they use the same ones across multiple sites. That leaves them vulnerable to hackers who procure even one password. Reports claim that some of the passwords were obtained as a result of a 2012 hack against professional networking site LinkedIn. In mid-May, LinkedIn announced that hackers stole and released more than 100 million members' email and password combinations. The latest hacks put affected celebrities in an awkward position. After regaining control of its Twitter account, Black's music group, Tenacious D, sent a tweet Sunday stating: "WE had our Twitter account hacked. We can assure you that Jack is ALIVE and WELL and that this was a sick 'prank.'" Hacked more than week ago, singer Katy Perry's Twitter account was flooded with offensive and racist tweets. The Twitter account of Jenner likewise was hit by mocking tweets, CBS News reported Monday. The fake tweets included one that read: "I love being so famous with no talent." A hacker seemingly took over Katy Perry's Twitter account this moing, sending out a series of bizarre Tweets to the pop star's 89 million-plus followers, the most followers of any account on Twitter.Included in the Tweets was a message telling Taylor Swift that Perry missed her (the pair have a rough history) and a series of insults.The culprit seems to be a Twitter user based in Romania by the name of @sw@ylol. This account posted screenshots of the emails Twitter sends to reset the password for an account, linked to the Twitter handle @katyperry. The account also posted a link to a song on Soundcloud which has since been removed, and a screenshot of a notification from Soundcloud declaring that the song had been removed for containing content owned by Katy Perry.The Tweets to Perry's account, which can be seen here (waing: strong language), have since been deleted, and the incident hasn't recurred. The company, which famously sold $1 billion worth of goods in eight minutes during China's Single's Day holiday, disclosed in a filing with the SEC that the agency is looking into its accounting practices. The probe is looking into its policies and practices, including how it reports operating data from Single's Day, which is unique to China and is sort of an anti-Valentine's Day. Alibaba is cooperating with the investigation and voluntarily disclosing information to the agency, the company said in the filing. "The SEC advised us that the initiation of a request for information should not be construed as an indication by the SEC or its staff that any violation of the federal securities laws has occurred," the filing said.
