  • Apple reportedly switches channels on TV plans, eyes digital guide instead - CNET

  • Getty Images/EyeEm Apple may not have given up on TV programming after all. After pausing plans last year for a service that would stream live TV over the inteet, the company is now focusing on creating a digital TV guide that would work on Apple TV boxes, iPhones and iPads, according to a Recode report Thursday. Apple is in talks with TV programmers and other video companies about a service that would tell you what's on where and help you watch it, the site reported. The service would corral information on programs available on video apps such as those offered by HBO, Netflix and ESPN without having to launch each app individually. The movie or TV show of your choice would begin with a single click through the guide, Recode reported.Apple declined to comment on the report.Apple's much-hinted-at subscription TV service was widely expected to be unveiled last year, but those plans were reportedly scrapped because of a lack of progress in securing licensing deals for programming from content providers such as TV networks.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • How to set up, use the new Apple TV Remote app - CNET

  • The day has come, Apple made good on its promise and released an improved Apple TV Remote app. It's an entirely different app from the rather old Remote app Apple that has been available for several years now. Effectively, your iPhone is now capable of replacing the Siri Remote that comes with the newest Apple TV.Setup is a breeze After installing the Apple TV Remote and opening it, select the Apple TV you want to connect to the remote. If you don't see a list of Apple TVs, make sure your iPhone is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Apple TV(s).Enlarge Image Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET Tap on the name of the TV you want to control, and then enter the four-digit code shown on your TV. This is a vast improvement over the previous pairing process, which required going through the Settings app on the Apple TV and initiating the pairing process. Now you just tap, enter a code, and you're done.Enlarge Image Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET Navigation When using the Apple TV Remote app, the top section of your screen mimics the touchpad on the Siri Remote that comes with the new Apple TV. Swipe in either direction to move and highlight buttons on your TV screen, tap within the touchpad area to select an item, and so on. Visible buttons include home, menu, Siri and Play/Pause. All of the buttons function as they do on the Siri Remote: tap on Menu to go back a screen; tap the Home button to go home; tap and hold the Siri button to give voice commands; and so on. Once you begin playing something, say in Netflix, three additional buttons are displayed: Details (top-right coer), and buttons to go back or skip ahead 10 seconds on either side of the Menu button. Tapping on Details will show any applicable artwork (so far I've only seen artwork show up when streaming content , ...ادامه مطلب

  • Sling TV adding NFL Network and RedZone just in time for regular season kickoff - CNET

  • Sarah Tew Football season is just around the coer -- and streaming TV fans will be able to watch more live games than ever before.NFL Network and NFL RedZone will soon be hitting Sling TV, the Dish-owned service announced Wednesday. That will give subscribers access to the football league's eponymous channel, as well as the "all the action inside the 20-yard line" mashup on RedZone during Sunday's games.Pricing of the channels wasn't provided, but Sling assured fans that the channels will go live in time for NFL's regular season, which begins September 8. Earlier this summer Sling TV made updated its service offering to deliver two separate channel tiers, Sling Blue and Sling Orange. The NFL additions will help the service to compete against streaming rival PlayStation Vue, which announced the addition of the same NFL channels just last week. But football fans in some cities may still find Vue enticing because it has some local CBS stations, which show AFC games. (Note that CBS owns CNET.) Both services offer ESPN, Fox and NBC -- all of which televise NFL games during football season -- but, like CBS on Vue, availability of local stations on the latter two vary by market. And, of course, the "watch all Sunday games" NFL Sunday Ticket package is another option for hardcore fans.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Japan kicks off 8K TV broadcasts - CNET

  • Japan has begun broadcasting TV in 8K resolution ahead of the Olympics starting in Rio de Janeiro this weekend.A satellite channel debuted by the country's public broadcaster NHK will be showing a heady blend of 4K and 8K programming, with most of this week's schedule focusing on the Olympics, as well as music and arts shows. 8K pumps image resolution up to a whopping 7,680x4,320 pixels, roughly four times more detail than 4K, also known as ultra high definition.NHK detailed this week's 8K debut back in April. Watching at home won't be an option for many, as even 4K TVs are still expensive and yet to be widely adopted. But NHK is putting on public viewings in six venues across Japan, showing Olympic events including the opening and closing ceremonies in 8K. If you're in the area, the full schedule in English is here (PDF link).Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • New Apple TV Remote app turns your iPhone into a touchscreen clicker - CNET

  • The updated remote control app for the 2015 Apple TV has arrived. The new app, called Apple TV Remote, is basically a software version of the Apple TV's tiny remote control: There is a large area at the top for gesture controls, making it easy to navigate around the user interface. Siri has a dedicated button allowing users to ask for a specific show or to use voice to search. And the Game Mode makes use of the accelerometer and gyroscope built into Apple mobile devices. And, like the Apple TV's forthcoming software update, it also offers a "dark mode" option. The app was first promised last year soon after the fourth-generation Apple TV box was introduced. Screenshot by Jacob Krol/CNET Available now from the App Store, the free app will work with any iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 9.3.2 or later, but it is not optimized for the iPad's largest screen. The old remote application, known as iTunes Remote, is still available, and continues to work with older Apple TV models.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Apple's arrogance likely squashed its streaming TV service - CNET

  • Apple's long-rumored streaming TV service failed to materialize due to its brash negotiating tactics, according to the The Wall Street Joual.Potential deals between the tech giant and major networks including CBS, Disney and Fox went south because Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of software and services came across as arrogant during negotiations, the newspaper reported Thursday. Many thought the service would have appeared as part of the revamped Apple TV box unveiled last year. Some tidbits from the report:Cue showed up late to negotiations with Time Waer CEO Jeff Bewkes in 2013 wearing jeans, sporting tennis shoes without socks and a Hawaiian shirt. The media executives he met with were all wearing suits. One anonymous cable industry exec summed up Cue's hard-nosed strategy as him saying: "We're Apple."Apple wanted $10 a month per subscriber from the cable networks, and it wanted to handle the experience through its AppleID logins.Apple wanted Disney to freeze the monthly rates it would pay Disney to license its cable channels, a break from the normal model of raising rates each year.Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب
