The Woman in the Window: A Novel (Unabridged) - A. J. Finn

  • Description "Astounding. Thrilling. Amazing." (Gillian Flynn) "Unputdownable." (Stephen King) "A dark, twisty confection." (Ruth Ware) "Absolutely gripping." (Louise Penny) For listeners of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade's most anticipated debuts, to be published in 36 languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: A twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house. It isn't paranoia if it's really happening.... Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolicall, ...ادامه مطلب

Getty Images I have visitors arriving from Norway next week and I'm worried that they're just going to ignore me. They might be educated sorts, but I fear they could be in the grip of Pokemon Go, which seems to have infiltrated Norway's highest echelons. As my evidence, might I present Trine Skei Grande? No, she's not Ariana's mom. She is, however, the leader of the Norwegian Liberal Party and she's just been caught playing Pokemon Go during a parliamentary hearing on Wednesday. As Norway's News In English reports, the hearing was discussing the future of Norway's defense industry. Meanwhile, Grande was on the attack, in search of monsters. Some military bases in Norway may be shut down. • Woman caught texting with hands, steering car with foot - CNET

  • Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Enlarge ImageNot well balanced? WPVI-TV screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET Outrage can often be pointless. The best we can do is at least grab our phones, record what is happening and hope that someone else will care. A Pennsylvania couple did just this. They were rather distraught at what they saw on the state's Schuylkill Expressway. So they filmed it and sent the results in to local TV station WPVI-TV. What appears to happen in the video is that a female driver is texting on her phone with both hands. She's keeping the car balanced by way of one of her New Balances.Yes, she's steering with her foot. • Woman says she dropped iPhone 2,500 feet out of a plane, found it intact - CNET

  • Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our lives.Enlarge ImageA resilient little thing, the iPhone 5S. CNET Not much can survive a fall from 2,500 feet. Even skydivers need parachute -- or a net.You certainly wouldn't expect an iPhone 5S to be anything other than a smashed collection of metal and glass if it fell that far. However, Jeannine Buck from British Columbia, Canada says her iPhone can do things others might not.As the Abbotsford News reports, Buck says she dropped her phone out the window of a Cessna in which she was a passenger last Monday night. She was flying around taking pictures out the window when the wind slipped it from her grasp. She says she saw it hitting tree branches in the park below which, perhaps, gave her hope.A few hours later, she persuaded a friend to offer his phone and its Find My iPhone app in order to search for hers.It helped that her phone has a distinctive ringtone -- Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay."She says she found it in the park and even posted a picture to her Facebook page to prove she wasn't making it all up.The screen wasn't cracked and the rest of the phone only had slight damage. The phone, she said, worked just fine.Buck didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. She has, however, retired Redding from his duties."I had just changed the ringtone [that] moing from 'Stayin' Alive,'" she told the Abbotsford News. "I've since changed in back in honor of the phone's will to live."Naturally, she describes it as "a miracle." Perhaps, though, she may have been fortunate in that the phone enjoyed a relatively soft landing in the trees, as opposed to the harder one it would have endured if it had fallen directly on the ground.Unless, of course, hers is a very special iPhone.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Meet Ava, the wearable that helps couples get pregnant - CNET

  • The Ava bracelet, wo at night, tracks nine physiological metrics, including pulse rate and skin temperature. Cathrin Schoen, Fokus Produkt Fotografie It seems like we've got wearables for everything these days. There are fake nails to help you commute, awearable chair for tired physicians, even a Pokemon Go-connected band. So now there's a new wearable that helps women get pregnant.Ava, a Swiss startup, on Tuesday started shipping its $199 bracelet that tracks your fertility cycles and helps you figure out the optimal time to conceive. The company also offered the first data on how well the product works. The bracelet uses technology to solve one of the more frustrating problems for some couples: getting pregnant. A healthy, young couple having sex every day only has a 25 percent chance of conceiving in any given month, according to The New England Joual of Medicine. That number decreases with age, health issues, intercourse frequency, among other factors. Ava aims to give women more control over the reproductive process.A woman wears the Ava bracelet, which has a 12-hour battery life (but can recharge in an hour), at night. The device sends 3 million data points it collects to her phone. The Ava app then displays the information through several graphs along with a timeline of her cycle, which depicts when she will be the most fertile. The Food and Drug Administration-approved bracelet tracks nine physical metrics, including heart rate variability and heat loss to predict a woman's fertile window, or the six days a month when a woman can get pregnant.Ava hopes to make fertility tracking effortless with its wearable and connected app. Daniel Winkler Ava also unveiled some clinical data, which found the bracelet gives you 5.3 fertile days per month with 89 percent accuracy. • Wild Wonder Woman comic-book moments you won't see in the movie - CNET

  • At the end of All-Star Comics 13 in 1942, Wonder Woman was made a permanent honorary member of the Justice Society of America... as a secretary. While the lads all went out and fought crime, she had to stay behind doing secretary things. Apparently, this was just "thrilling."It's actually creator William Moulton Marston's fault, according to comics blogger Tim Hanley. He wanted to be the only one to write Wonder Woman, so Gardner Fox, writer of All-Star Comics, had to leave her out of the adventures.Let's block ads! بخوانید, ...ادامه مطلب

  • 'Wonder Woman' gets a badass official trailer - CNET

  • [embedded content] "What I do is not up to you." The first full-length trailer for "Wonder Woman" is here and it's glorious. With a lighter palette than "Batman v Superman" and some seriously badass moves from the titular character (played by Gal Gadot once again), "WW" already looks better than we could've hoped. (Of course, a lot of us felt that way last year after we saw the first "Suicide Squad" trailer and look how that's tued out.)The trailer leans extensively on the relationship between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor (Chris Pine of "Star Trek Beyond"). And it seems that director Patty Jenkins is making liberal use of slow-motion captures to accentuate the gracefulness of our Amazonian women in battle. "Wonder Woman" is directed by Patty Jenkins and due in theaters June 2, 2017. The film will be the first female-fronted comic book film -- Marvel, you've got some catching up to do. • This is what Wonder Woman's invisible jet looks like - CNET

  • Enlarge ImageWonder Woman's famed invisible jet is on display at San Diego Comic-Con. Richard Nieva/CNET The press release said I was here to see an invisible jet. More specifically, Wonder Woman's famed mode of transport. In theory, they could've just put me on an empty street coer, told me the jet was in front of me, and I'd have had no grounds for argument. And that's the fun of San Diego Comic-Con, which unofficially started Wednesday with a preview night for press. The 46-year-old event attracts 130,000 attendees every year to the San Diego waterfront for a half-week binge of comics and pop culture. So I went to see the jet. Fortunately, the Wonder Women event, held by Waer Bros. Consumer Products, was not just an emperor's new clothes kind of stunt. The installation, on a street coer in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, looks like this: There's a backdrop of the sky and clouds, with what looks like half a jet protruding out of it. The aircraft is made of clear plastic -- similar to how toy versions of the jet look, just a lot bigger. The installation is part of a 75th anniversary celebration of the iconic comic hero. Wonder Woman had a part in this year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and she's getting her own movie, due out in 2017. She even graces the cover of this year's official Comic-Con souvenir book. The first fan to take a picture inside the jet was April Meneghetti from Sacramento, Califoia. Richard Nieva/CNET For Comic-Con, installations like this, which entice photographs and Facebook and Twitter posts (and, yes, news articles) are some of the biggest draws. Others this year are from HBO's "Game of Thrones" and Comedy Central's "South Park." Wonder Woman fans were invited to line up and have their picture taken inside the jet's cockpit. The first fan to get inside was April, ...ادامه مطلب

  • Pokemon Go: Have you caught the fever? (The 3:59, Ep. 75) - CNET

  • Have you caught them all? Pokemon Go launched last week, and it's a legitimate phenomenon, with people taking "Pokewalks" around their neighborhoods to find the digital monsters and power-ups on their phone. Nintendo and its developer partner, Niantic, have struggled to keep up with demand from players, with server outages and app crashes a frequent occurrence. But that hasn't dampened enthusiasm for the game. It's the first instance where augmented reality, which overlays digital images on top of the real world, has been wedded to a pop culture icon. When not talking about our sad number of Pokemon caught, we also talk about Amazon's Prime Day and what our ideal Prime Day discounted items would be. Either way, be prepared for a slew of deals come Tuesday. CNET Pokemon Go, the new Nintendo augmented reality game, was intended to send players out into the real world. How much reality, though, might gamers find? And how augmented might that reality be?Shayla Wiggins, 19, from Riverton, Wyoming, says that on Friday moing the game prompted her to find a Pokemon in a natural water source. Instead, as local Community news site County 10 reported, she found something else in a river: a dead body."I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water," she told County 10. "I had to take a second look and I realized it was a body."She said the body was of an average-size male, wearing a black shirt and black pants. She said she called 911 and detectives arrived.
